“The Way Of ROnin“

This campaign is a collaboration between Strictly- the Japanese streetwear brand and Ronin- founded by Tu Lam, a former Green Beret and lifelong student of Bushido philosophy. Spanning over 12 months of collaboration, planning and execution, the series draws inspiration from Miyamoto Musashi’s legendary text- The Book of Five Rings. Each film- Fire, Water, Earth, Wind and Void, represents a stage in Tu Lam’s lifelong journey toward mastery. Together, these pieces form a cinematic reflection of discipline, purpose, and self-understanding, five chapters woven into one complete philosophy.

Approach

To bring this campaign to life, we crafted a unified cinematic narrative where each elemental film expressed a distinct phase of Tu Lam’s journey, inspired by the philosophies of Miyamoto Musashi.

We began by deeply understanding the meaning behind each element- Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Void. We then translated those principles into unique visual languages, environments, movement and tone.

Our production approach balanced authenticity with artistic storytelling, focusing on disciplined performance, intentional lighting design and interesting locations that spanned all around New South Wales, Australia. While each film stands independently with its own mood and limited-edition artwork, they were all meticulously designed to interconnect as a cohesive reflection of The Way of Ronin- a campaign that elevates fashion beyond product and into philosophy.
